Ian and Maggy Staples would be delighted to make you welcome at
Fundo Chacaipulli.
They sailed from Britain to Chile, via French Polynesia, in their
yacht, Teokita. Their objective was to explore the southern waters
of Patagonia. This they achieved, but the friendliness of the people,
the diversity of the nature, landscape and culture made them fall
in love with Chile and stay. In 1998 they purchased Fundo Chacaipulli
and have developed it with prime Hereford/Angus beef cattle, with
Polled Dorset sheep for their lamb production, with forestry and
are now developing as an important producer and in 2007 exporter
of fine Chilean honey.
The
Farm: Fundo Chacaipulli
is located in one of the most beautiful spots in the Chilean Lakes
Region. You can enjoy life in your lodge and on the farm with riding,
walking, bird watching (there are over 50 different species of birds
on the farm) and fishing. Ian and Maggy's 2 Labradors love going
on the rides and walking with you so they love having visitors as
well. Not only can you enjoy the farm but can use your lodge as
a comfortable and private base to explore the region.
Ian and Maggy
have guests staying with them from the spring (early October) until
early autumn (late April) The weather in the Lakes Region of Chile
over this period changes from showers and warm weather to generally
hot and dry in January and February. Its a good idea to bring
good sun cream and your swimming kit as it is lovely to bathe in
the river when you are out on a ride or take a swim in one of the
nearby lakes
The Lodges: With skilled local craftsmen
they have constructed 3 Rocky Mountain type lodges.
The lodges are located close to the main farm house but they lie
in their own cosy world of mature southern beech trees. You can
relax in your lodge or use the pool and main garden as though you
were staying in your own home.
- The 3 lodges are called:
- The Araucaria Lodge
Which has 2 large double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms
and a balcony bedroom, ideal for children.
- The Picaflor Lodge - Grande
Which has 3 bedrooms, 2 with double beds one with 2 singles
and is equipped with 2 very comfortable bathrooms.
- The Picaflor Lodge - Chico
Which is perfect for a couple with a large en suite bedroom.

The style of your stay is self catering but you are part of the
farm and usually Ian and Maggy have guests eating with them as friends
for some of their stay and often guests invite each other and Maggy
to eat with them or to picnic at make a barbecue together.
Chile is full of wonderful fresh food. You can have the pleasure
of buying newly caught fish from the fish market in Valdivia and
pick up a huge selection of fresh vegetables, all at very affordable
prices.
Whether you are a complete novice or an
experienced rider you will love riding on the farm. The Chilean
horse is small, strong and easy to ride. The locally made Chilean
leather saddles are large and comfortable with hand carved stirrups.
Once you are comfortable and made a friend of your horse you keep
him for your stay. Maggy rides nearly every day with guests and
each day is a different experience.
Fishing:
Not only is the farm great for riding but the Rio San Pedro
flows through the farm so if you are a keen fisherman this river
and other local rivers can make a great day fishing.

Horse riding: Ian and Maggy have lived in this region for
quite a few years but they are still delighted with the unspoiled
majestic scenery of mountains, snowy volcanoes, lakes and waterfalls.
From the farm it is only a short distance for you to be in the Andes
or down to the coast.

Honey!
Whether you are a bee keeper or just like honey the development
of Rio San Pedro Miel (Honey) you will find interesting. Ian and
Maggy would be delighted to invite bee keepers to visit and see
what is being done in Chile. They have built a sophisticated Honey
Harvesting and Processing Plant and their bees are located amongst
the native flora of Chile with some fine and varied types of honey.
Keen bee keepers can not only visit Ian and Maggy but can visit
other producers in their group and to swap ideas with them.
